There are multiple modes for players to participate in, including Squad Arena (player vs. player), Dark and Light battles, Tavern, Galactic War, Raid and various special events. All modes are played against computer-controlled AI, including squad arena battles where the AI controls the player-created team.

Collect Star Wars characters from the main canonical universe and the legendary classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series, create teams with them, and use them to fight in turn-based combat battles. There are multiple ways to collect characters: some are immediately available to players, while others are earned through gameplay or as in-game rewards in the form of shards, which players can obtain by unlocking and/or upgrading their characters. Shards can be earned from battles or purchased from the store. Maximizing the rarity of a non-event character to 7 stars unlocks a special store where extra pieces from 7-star non-event heroes can be exchanged for equipment. The number of pieces needed to unlock a character will also correspond to their starting star level, ranging from one star to seven stars. Characters can be promoted to a maximum of seven stars, with their power increasing with each additional star. There are also training bots that provide different levels of experience values to upgrade characters. Gear, modules, and ability sections are available to upgrade characters, although some gear can primarily only be obtained from battles on one side of the Force to encourage players to play on both sides.
