In ROYAL MATCH, players match three or more shapes of the same color to remove them and some surrounding items from the board. Arranging diamonds and other symbols in the form of squares, etc. creates booster items, such as propellers, which can crash out of random obstacles. Players can also drag two adjacent boosters towards each other for greater effect. Completing puzzles earns them stars, which they need to perform castle decoration tasks, as well as coins to purchase additional rounds. Players will unlock new areas of the castle through new tasks as they play the game.

The premise of this trivial game is fairly simple, but if players want to make significant progress in the game, the challenges may exceed their expectations. In the Royal Match, players earn stars by completing rounds to fund the tasks they need to unlock new areas. For example, you may need to add a fountain to the front of the castle or place a statue in the throne room, an action that costs two stars. The game section is well designed. Levels include different objectives, from clearing 32 pieces of grass from the board to breaking the box next to the symbols. In addition to the standard matching game of rockets and bombs, the game introduces a number of interesting booster items, such as a clown hat that moves tiles on the board without costing you a move and a cannon platoon that blows up entire people.

The first dozen or so levels aren't too difficult, but the puzzles quickly start to get more intense. Players are required to remove more items within a certain number of turns, and some must be hit repeatedly. To succeed, you must focus on combining symbols in groups of four or more to form the secondary props that are to succeed. If you can't complete the puzzle before you run out of moves, you can buy additional rounds with coins - but doing so will quickly eliminate the gains you made while playing the game. You can also repeat the round and try to complete the puzzle again - but you lose a life for each failure, and some puzzles may require more than four attempts. Other potentially useful boosters are also usually more expensive than what you have on hand, so once you die, you must wait for them to replenish in order to continue playing, or start buying items to continue playing.
