A brand new hero has been added to the PvZ universe: Green Shadow. This is an elusive pea shooter. In addition, Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes allows players to control both plant and zombie formations on mobile devices for the first time; there's new real-time multiplayer that lets you play against other players; and the ability to test different heroes and combinations in single-player missions to create the best superhero team for you. 

Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes changes the classic tower defense approach by shifting the focus of gameplay to the card battle section. Players use different combinations of cards to battle each other on a lawn divided into 5 paths until they run out of life to win.

And because it's a card battle game, players can also match online in real time and play as one of the plants or zombies respectively.
