In Fishdom, the goal is to handle and develop a virtual aquarium. Using game coins you can buy three things: aquarium decorations, comfort items to adjust the enjoyment of the fish and different kinds of fish. The more of these items the player acquires, the higher the beauty, comfort and fish indicators will be. Filling all of these will unlock one of three trophies: Bronze, Silver or Gold. If the player runs out of money, it can only be replenished by solving triple elimination puzzles in a separate mode.

To solve a puzzle, players must make three or more matches by pressing pieces adjacent to each other in order to swap them. The level is complete when each golden tile is matched at least once. Some tiles are silver and must be matched twice to clear. Tiles that are chained can only be released by matching them with other tiles of the same color. Some tiles are double-locked and require them to be matched twice. Bonus points are awarded when more than three identical pieces are formed. Crates are wooden brown boxes that you must match next to in order to get rid of them, and crate tiles can go all the way up to a five-weight crate. Earths are an element of the game and tiles can be grounded up to four times, but unlike crates, Earths do not contain a piece. Gold nuggets can be horizontal targets and they can be collected by matching next to them. A gold nugget can be covered by up to 3 earth tiles.

When four or more tiles are matched at the same time, stronger props will appear. To use the power-up, the player must press it or swap it with any other tile. Firecrackers destroy everything in a one-tile range, depth bombs destroy everything in a two-tile range, and dynamite clears everything in a three-tile range. There are currently 7300 Fishdom levels, with 50 more added every Thursday.
